The Business "Maze"

There is a "maze" that many business owners find themselves in. This maze is a complex structure of interconnected passages through which it is difficult to find your way. There many different passageways: some lead to dead-ends, some have you going around in circles, and only a few lead to your goals.

Feeling Stuck and Afraid

Many business owners have many important goals for their business and yet they feel stuck. You might wake-up feeling frustrated, stressed, and uncertain. You might be afraid there won't be enough money to take care of your family. You might be struggling or just getting by.

How Long Have You Been in the Maze?

The feeling that: "you can never seem to get ahead" indicates you are stuck in the business maze. You might have been stuck there for months or even years. The longer you're stuck, the worse it gets.

Lost Time and Lost Opportunities

Every time you don't reach your business goals, you have lost time that you can never get back! And you have lost valuable business opportunities as well. Some lost opportunities you were aware of, but just didn't have the resources to pursue them. Other opportunities were hidden. You felt they were there, but just couldn't see them.

Are Other People Are Counting on You?

Your family and employees are counting on you! This makes the pressure and the frustration more intense. Family members and employees do not understand how complicated business can be. Your child may ask: "Why can't we go on vacation like other kids?" These are agonizing conversations. And it is still up to you to find a way to reach your business goals.

It's Even Worse Than You Think

Just how complex is the business maze? Gary Kasparov, retired world chess champion, in a recent Harvard business review interview on chess and business said:

"There’s a massive amount of uncertainty and almost boundless variety in terms of the moves   you can make in both chess and business. Think about it: After just three opening moves by a chess player, more than 9 million positions are possible. And that’s when only two players are involved in the game. Now imagine all the possibilities faced by companies with a whole host of corporations responding to their new strategies, pricing, and products. The unpredictability is almost unimaginable.”

How Can You Cope With Massive Complexity?

You can deal with massive complexity and uncertainty with a proven system. The proven system works for you to make the right moves in your business. The system guides you through the maze. You stop going around in circles and avoid the dead-ends. You stop wasting time and stop missing opportunities. You can finally reach your business goals!

Case Studies of People Who Found Their Way Out of the Maze

Case Study #1

In this case study I worked with a client in 2010. We were still in the midst of the Great Recession. My client was in the IT services business and his clients were in the residential real estate business. If you recall, the residential real estate business went south on a big way during the Great Recession.

When he came to me we met in his garage. He had just moved out of his office. He had to let go of all of his staff and move into his garage. He was pretty low. We sat down at a folding table and he asked if I could help. We got started with the 12 step plan. When it came to the opportunities question… he was a blank.

It didn’t take long to identify this as his critical constraint. When we finished the strengths and competitive advantage we could describe his value proposition and messaging. Based on his mission, strengths and weaknesses we could identify the ideal customer. We used online tools and relationships to identify prospects that could take full advantage of his services. We leveraged his time effectively to generate opportunities.

He was a team of one and was receptive to learning the new strategies. 10 months later his revenue was up 372%. He moved out of his garage and back into an office shortly thereafter. We built the right message and delivered it to the right audience and created customers. A lot of customers. The twelve steps program guided us in the right direction. Was everything perfect the first time. Not really, but we new we were on the right track.

Case Study #2

Alicia Pacific Vet Care: In this case study a young veterinarian operation was struggling to make a profit. We used the twelve step plan and realized a lack of data and reporting as a weakness. This became the critical constraint. When we went to her partners for marketing reports … they weren’t available.

We switched service providers so that we could see and review marketing results. We simplified and routinized the financial reporting system and we ran a bench mark report on the industry. We realized that the staffing numbers were higher than average and adjusted the team accordingly. We identified $116K in annual savings within the first 90 days of working together. We’ve set the 2018 revenue target almost 50% higher than 2017.
